Ultraman dunks

More on sneakers…
As I have talked about in my previous post on sneakers, my Gen Z son has gotten me into the addiction of collecting sneakers. Especially those that have been brought back from the 80s. My current obsession is Nike Dunks.

I really love the look of these shoes. Both the ‘SB’ version for skateboarding and the regular Dunks were originally made for basketball players in the 80s. So the other day, my son showed me a picture of a new release of Nike Dunk Low called the “Ultraman“. It was modeled after the Japanese Sci-Fi T.V. series from the 1960’s.

Man, when I saw those I was hooked. I had spent a lot of time in my youth watching re-runs of these classic Japanese shows, including Johnny Sokko and his Giant Robot. But Ultraman was my favorite at that time. I loved the silver and red color scheme of the Ultraman superhero and the whole alien vibe. Now my Gen Z son would watch a show like that today and think how bad it was, but campy low budget T.V was all we had. So when I saw these sneakers, I knew I had to have them.

They released on May 4th, and I had signed up to be notified on Nike’s SNKRS app when they dropped. Well, when the day came, I was lucky enough to get them. And now I can’t wait for them to arrive. I even found a great Ultraman shirt on ebay to wear with it.  I love being able to find these nostalgic items from my youth.

Do any of my GenX folks like to collect retro sneakers?

Well until next time…
